week 10!

 week 10!

I probably missed a week or two but lets continue and say this is week 10, last week before thanksgiving break, we had last senior critique yesterday for the semester. I am a little far behind than I would like to be, I wanted to have a few new pieces to show for my critique than I had ready. I have some new ideas that I am excited about to work on after break and for next semester for the final show in may. And I am working on finishing a few pieces for the demuth show here in a few weeks as well. I applied to a bunch of artist residencies for after graduation so hopefully one of those works out, it would be a nice transition from school not having to give up making art to make time to work. I'm not excited about break since I want to keep working on my new ideas but if I get them all written down maybe I will be able to source the materials I need to get right back into working when we get back. We finally have a show poster for the demuth show, I wasn't planning on being the one to come up with both the name and design but here we are and I'm proud of that. Now back to making care bear rugs and painting animal masks. Oh and also I finally got my name legally changed this week!  :)

Last First Week!!

 Can't believe this is my last first day of college! It's been such a long time that I'm not sure what I'm gonna do after this without my support and community here at pcad and having a designated space and time just to work on art.  Anyways this first week was a bit of a whirlwind getting through the first days of all my classes, most of them are not studio classes this semester since I have to retake a few again and fulfill some random credits. I do like the one class that is helping me find more resources for artist shows and residencies even if it is a bit repetitive. I am excited to finally have a class where I get to be in the photography department and see how the dark rooms work, alt process seems like a different way of making prints so far so I should enjoy that one. As well I am in a class with all of the graphic design artists to learn hand lettering, a skill that I think is useful but surprisingly difficult for someone with shaky hands like me. I am excited

week 2

  Week 2! This week I was busy with several projects, I worked on a tiny dollhouse room sculpture for my Friday drawing class. We were given a partner and then told something to do, my instruction was to create something from a different perspective. I thought the word perspective was intriguing so I ran with it and decided to make something smaller than I was used to and also have it be a forced perspective with the table going back smaller into space. I am proud of how it turned out although if I had more time I would add a lot more details and maybe people to it.  What I worked on during my senior studio time was one of my first collages. I am experimenting with some new materials as well as imagery. I wanted to continue to use some of my childhood photos and memories and put them together in a visually interesting way. week 3!

 Week 3!  This week I worked on finishing some collage pieces for the first senior critique today, overall I am happy with how they turned out and the feedback I got in class today, although I think I am going to switch directions and work with a different material now. I think I am going to continue with the theme of childhood and now focusing on how my family didn't have much growing up so getting your needs met was a challenge everyday and we had to go without a lot. Focusing on food, money, and housing mainly as the aspects we are always insecure about.  I also finished working on my sculpture for my other class and the obstruction project for the drawing class. This time my challenge was to make something happy and It had to be a 2-d piece, I may have cheated a little and made it more of a 3-d object but overall I am happy with it and I tried a new process which was actually really fast and easy to transfer the image to fabric which I will be using again most likely.
