Last First Week!!

 Can't believe this is my last first day of college! It's been such a long time that I'm not sure what I'm gonna do after this without my support and community here at pcad and having a designated space and time just to work on art. 

Anyways this first week was a bit of a whirlwind getting through the first days of all my classes, most of them are not studio classes this semester since I have to retake a few again and fulfill some random credits. I do like the one class that is helping me find more resources for artist shows and residencies even if it is a bit repetitive.

I am excited to finally have a class where I get to be in the photography department and see how the dark rooms work, alt process seems like a different way of making prints so far so I should enjoy that one. As well I am in a class with all of the graphic design artists to learn hand lettering, a skill that I think is useful but surprisingly difficult for someone with shaky hands like me.

I am excited about the work I am making for the final senior show and can't wait to see everything finished and in the space :) Lots of ideas just have to work on getting everything done on time! I am less excited about all the writing and public speaking I will have to do for my thesis and artist talk though. 

I already finished one of the things I wanted to for the first critique and am going to start on the second, a sculpture of baby me that's gonna be connected to a bedspread with stuffed animals.

  Week 2! This week I was busy with several projects, I worked on a tiny dollhouse room sculpture for my Friday drawing class. We were given a partner and then told something to do, my instruction was to create something from a different perspective. I thought the word perspective was intriguing so I ran with it and decided to make something smaller than I was used to and also have it be a forced perspective with the table going back smaller into space. I am proud of how it turned out although if I had more time I would add a lot more details and maybe people to it.  What I worked on during my senior studio time was one of my first collages. I am experimenting with some new materials as well as imagery. I wanted to continue to use some of my childhood photos and memories and put them together in a visually interesting way. week 3!

 Week 3!  This week I worked on finishing some collage pieces for the first senior critique today, overall I am happy with how they turned out and the feedback I got in class today, although I think I am going to switch directions and work with a different material now. I think I am going to continue with the theme of childhood and now focusing on how my family didn't have much growing up so getting your needs met was a challenge everyday and we had to go without a lot. Focusing on food, money, and housing mainly as the aspects we are always insecure about.  I also finished working on my sculpture for my other class and the obstruction project for the drawing class. This time my challenge was to make something happy and It had to be a 2-d piece, I may have cheated a little and made it more of a 3-d object but overall I am happy with it and I tried a new process which was actually really fast and easy to transfer the image to fabric which I will be using again most likely.
